ABOUT US
Rooted in community since 1987
Founded on 1 July 1987, Newham Chinese Association is a volunteer-led community organisation serving the Chinese community in Newham and East London. Across changing venues and circumstances, we have worked to reduce isolation, improve access to services, preserve cultural heritage and strengthen civic participation.

We support and empower the Chinese community in Newham by:
-
Providing social and recreational activities

Delivering culturally appropriate education and community programmes
-
Promoting access to services and civic participation
-
Reducing isolation and inequality
-
Preserving and celebrating Chinese cultural heritage

OUR VISSION
A community able to thrive
We envision a confident, visible and well-supported Chinese community in East London where:
-
Older residents are not isolated
-
Language is not a barrier to accessing services
-
Cultural identity is celebrated
-
Younger generations are engaged
-
Community members can participate fully in civic life

Our Values

Community first
We prioritise the wellbeing and needs of the Chinese community in Newham.

Empowerment
We support people to make informed decisions and access opportunities confidently.

Inclusion
We promote participation across generations and backgrounds.

Cultural respect
We celebrate Chinese traditions and encourage cross-cultural understanding.

Integrity and accountability
Funds raised are applied to further the objectives of NCA’s constitution.
Our history and future
Over the years, NCA has delivered heritage projects, cultural celebrations and exhibitions, health advocacy initiatives, community safety workshops, civic participation programmes and social activities supporting older people’s wellbeing. Today we operate on a smaller scale and are seeking volunteers, partnerships and funding to help us serve older and younger generations. Our trustees oversee the charity’s direction and stewardship.
